Monitoring for Performance

There is a continuing breed objective to produce stock which achieve consistently high levels of performance. All registered sheep are assessed each year. The ewe is recorded for prolificacy and milk yield and the results returned to the flock owner.

Only if the ewe reaches the high breed standard for these two attributes of prolificacy and milkiness can her rams become eligible for use, either for pure breeding or as a crossing sire.

The Society regulations include an eight point inspection listing of the physical attributes to be met by r.ams to qualify for registration

This system of monitoring by the Society ensures the high standards of breeding stock; in addition, genetic improvement is an ever present aim of the Society and breeders.
